Are you using Facebook, the new Google+, or Twitter?

We wanted to draw your attention to the new, easy sharing links right in the summary box of each recipe on BigOven.

You may ask, “Why should I spend any time “Like”-ing or “+1”ing things?” 

Well, by taking a second to share, like, or vote up, you’re helping your friends cook better, you’re helping yourself find the recipes you like more quickly in the future, and you’re also helping BigOven. 

In part, this is because over time, we expect the search engines to care more and more about the “social rank” of pages and sites. We see search engines as quite likely to use “social rank” as an indicator of site quality and therefore rank them higher.  Those sites that people “share” a lot from will likely rank higher in the search results. 

More people means more photos, ratings, and recipes, and more resources for us to deliver even more of the great meal planning features you’re looking for.  So we’d love it if you make use of the +1 or “Like” button of your choice when you discover, rate, scan or post recipes you truly enjoy! 

Facebook Users: Send Recipes Easily

Clicking the Like will add it to Facebook wall, giving you handy access to it at a later time right from Facebook search.

You can also click the “Send” button to send it easily to any of your Facebook contacts – importantly, there’s no need for you to look up their email address, and you can even send it to an entire Facebook group in one go:

Google Searchers:  Find it Faster with Google+ and +1

Clicking the +1 button will (currently, at least – this may change) rank the recipe higher in your own search results on Google when you are logged in, and make it easier for you to find again next time:

We also suspect, in the future, that there’s a chance that Google will rate BigOven.com higher if lots of people +1 all of our collective recipes.  Please only do that for the ones you truly like, however!  So, by +1 ing recipes, you’re helping us get more users, which helps you get more great recipes, ratings, features and photos!
